lifeScan One-Touch Equals Resolution Our control of tip and cantilever is different than in other AFMs and enables marked improvement in resolution of isolated individual biomolecules imaged in fluids. View Details

3.4 nm Helical Period Visible in DNA

Alternating high Z-low Z stretches are visible along plasmid DNA in lower image. Upper images are 3D displays of plasmid areas near white bars.

For the eight intervals indicated by the arrows on left and ten intervals on right, the distance equals 3.44 +/-0.35 nm close to the helical repeat distance of 10.5 bp in B-DNA.

Conditions: Hepes/NiCl2 buffer; silicon super sharp tips, 4 nm nominal diameter; images acquired in 250 nm field, partial field shown.
